  A message from Kirsten Saylor, GardenWorks manager:


It is with great sadness that I type these words.  John McDermott passed
away on 12-12-06. 

John was a Twin Cities Community Garden Hero if there ever was one.  In
1998, he almost singlehandedly revived the Totem Town Community Garden on
St. Paul's East Side.  He was also very involved in the development of the
Twin Cities Sustainability Plan . He was instrumental in getting GardenWorks
up and running.

The following was written by John for the Sustainability Plan.
  

"Community gardens contribute significantly to the quality of life in Ramsey
County and Hennepin County.  As community gardeners, we are working to
promote gardens as an increasingly valuable, permanent community asset for
the present and future.  We are working with our neighbors to use wisely the
land, water, and other resources needed to grow successful communities
through gardening." 

John McDermott, December 2004 

Community Garden Sustainability Plan

 I found John to be a reservoir of inspiration, support, and laughs.  I know
he will be sorely missed by many.
