[Community_garden] Brooklyn Garden requests data on "Friends of Garden" Groups

Hi all, 
    I am looking into starting a Friends of the 64th Street Community Garden group.   The main reason, gather additional community support, political support and extra funding for special garden projects.   Our garden is on State land and at some future date we will fight the fight to have it remain forever green.    So, having said all of that, I would appreciate any information or documentation that you may have that would help me better understand just what a Friends of Group is, what they do,  how they can help a garden.   Do they pay fee's, hold benefits, get any special garden privileges etc.    If you have a brochure, please attach, any documentation would be helpful.
