Hi Geoff,
In partnership with a school of the Grand Rapids Public School District
(Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Academy, a green built school), we grow
food in 240 sq feet of garden space on their green roof. We also have large
planters on the roof in which we also use for food. The food garden is the
center of our food and garden programming at one of the most urban schools
here in Grand Rapids. It's good stuff.
Good luck on the presentation. Contact us directly if you want to chat more
about our programs.
Cheers,

Subject: [Community_garden] Green roofs anyone ?
Hi,
Green Roofs anyone ?
I'd like to ask is any community garden group member of ACGA can contact me
if they have a green roof -- in particular a "food roof" ?
I wish to write a report on "food from the roof" for the Green Roofs for
Australia conference and Green Roof Photo Expo in Brisbane, Australia, on
February 22 and 23, 2007. It will be the start of a green roof movement in
Australia under the leadership of Green Roofs for Australian Cities (GRHAC),
one of the 15 member organisations of the World Green Roof Infrastructure
Network (see www.greenroofsworld.com after December 1).
I am particularly interested in promoting the concept of "food from the
roof" in Australia, and have initiated two university R&D projects that
should lead to community green roofs for food, utilising donated commercial
rooftops and, perhaps, donated rooftops of community-owned buildings. Food
from the roof can be simple (containerised growing using soil) or complex
(using organic hydroponics, aquaculture, aquaponics and vermiculture).
My subsequent report after members of ACGA contact me would be made
available free to ACGA via a link to my website www.urbanag.info I am
hoping my report can also include an analysis of food from the roof
development in Europe. My report on food from the roof potential in
Singapore is at www.greenroofs.com -- guest editorial of November 2005.
Other green roof information is at www.greenroofs.org and
