Vandals can't trample on gardeners' resolve
A HEALTH agency in Wester Hailes has pledged to not
let the vandals win after its garden was almost
destroyed.
The community garden project based in the grounds of
the Wester Hailes Health Agency was trashed in a
mindless act of vandalism last month. But now
volunteers are working towards getting the garden back
to its former glory.
A spokesman for the Health Agency said: "These acts of
vandalism deeply saddened and upset many of those
people who benefited from the garden's creation. There
is disgust at the destruction and although it has
lowered morale amongst the team, with that also comes
a determination not to let the vandals win."
In the attacks on the site, which happened during a
weekend evening, plant pots were broken, plants
destroyed, tables upturned, segments of lawn ripped
up, trees pushed over and roof guttering was torn
down. The vandals have not yet been caught.
The Health Agency says that the garden, created by
volunteers over an eight-month period, had made a real
difference to the area.
