[Community_garden] garden allotment size question

Oh- I don't know. My allotment garden here in Winnipeg, Canada features
plots about that size (or metric equivalent ~33'x109'). Thats generous for
north American 'burbs', but not for Europe.
In Europe so often you see larger allotment gardens with veggies, flowers,
herbs, berries, fruit trees perhaps plus a seating area & a shed or
greenhouse crammed in.
Think of it as the poor man's cotttage!

On the way home from the ACGA conference and board meeting in Boston last
week, I saw a newspaper article about allotments in the UK and it mentioned
that the standard size of 30x100 feet for allotments was determined a long
time ago as the amount required to feed a family of four. (Apparently
demand
is so high that they're having in some areas to reduce allotment size below
the 'standard.' but that standard sounds awfully generous anyway, doesn't
it??)
