As a community garden volunteer (with the Clinton Community Garden in
Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen) whose daytime gig is working for the
National Audubon Society, I'd like to invite community gardeners to take
part in the upcoming Great Backyard Bird Count, which will take place
from February 16-19th, President's Birthday weekend.

All you have to do is count how many and what kinds of birds you see in
your garden (or backyard, or park) for fifteen minutes, and enter your
tally online at www.birdsource.org <http://www.birdsource.org/> . You
don't have to be a bird expert - you can find helpful information on the
website; you can also visit www.audubon.org <http://www.audubon.org/>
where we've posted video responses to some FAQs. This year is the tenth
anniversary of the count, which is a partnership effort of the National
Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

It's a great excuse to get outside and see what kind of wildlife is
around even in the winter, and to help conservation scientists learn
more about bird population trends. Besides, it's fun! Last year we saw
house finches and white throated sparrows in addition to the usual house
sparrows, starlings and pigeons in our garden - and that's in the middle
of New York City.

Please feel free to email me if you'd like more information.
