Dear ACGA members,
Thank you to those who responded to my initial email about
"Community-initiated green/open space creation using ecological principles."
I am writing to provide a list of the projects compiled from ACGA member
responses as well as to provide (what I hope is) a more precise
definition of my initial query. First, the definition: neighborhood
green space created through a citizen-based process and designed with
ecological intent for habitat, stormwater management, heat island
reduction, &c.
I recognize that food gardens provide these benefits, but these benefits
tend to be accidental as opposed to intentional. Community food gardens
are typically designed to achieve food security and community
development goals.
Here is a list of projects compiled from ACGA member replies
Charlotte day shelter and soup kitchen for the homeless (www.urbanministrycenter.org)
project along headwaters of Toby Creek in Charlotte
American Addition Garden, Columbus, OH
A coastal prairie community of plants (which serves local insects and birds) along the Ohlone Walkway, Berkeley, CA
Sacramento, CA green space project - trees, native plants, some perennials... all maintained by neighbors on city land
A native plant garden that was started a few years ago organized by a man named Fred Fife in Salt Lake
Thank you.
Georgia
