The vegetable seed industry is very complex.Seminis, which is owned by
Monsanto,markets their seeds through Johnny's,Gardens Alive,Earl May,Park,Mountain
Valley,Willhite,Tomato Growers,Lindenberg,E&R Seeds,Burpee,J.W. Jung and T&T
Seeds. In addition they "own" thousands of varieties;Celebrity and Better Boy
tomato being just a couple.
  "If you've eaten a salad,you've had a Seminis product."
This information was gleaned from the Seminis website. One can expend a lot of
energy trying to avoid Monsanto, and still not succeed.

Relative to regionally appropriate seeds,I would like to put in a plug for
Organic Gardening magazine. OG has test plots in 6 different regions. The
results are reported in the most recent issue.
Among the gallery of winners are Margherita tomato and Twinkle
eggplant, both of which are Seminis products. You can't win!
