The other really nice Bonsai Place is in Littleton (again, off 495) Bonsai
West www.bonsaiwest.com/ They are supernice and quite familiar with the
area. I'm sure they'd love to help you figure out what to do.
(Sarah and I know Sunnye is in the Boston Area because of the areacode....)
Bloom where you are planted,

Couple of questions - has it been inside for some length of time? If so,
easing it out into an unheated garage or unheated porch first might be
beneficial.
If the ground is still workable (it was 10 days ago, but now.....) bury
the pot to the rim in the ground and then mulch. That's how we deal with
our bonsai each winter (in Connecticut.)
Your pot-in-pot concept is on the right track - it should do the trick
for a little while. And yes, it NEEDS the dormant period each winter.
Juniper will not survive inside for any length of time.
An excellent - and nearby - resource for you is New England Bonsai
Gardens in Bellingham, just off 495. Great plants, great people and good
advice! And watch out - this practice can be addictive!
Good luck -

HELP! I just got a sweet little juniper bonsai and it says to put it
outside (surrounded with mulch), but it's freezing and it's so wee.
Since I can't seem to find mulch anywhere, I have placed the pot in a
much bigger pot insulated with styrofoam peanuts & soil. Am I
kidding myself? Oh, and I put a scarf around it too for good
measure. Ha!!
I don't want to kill it. Any tips would be extremely appreciated...
