[Community_garden] canning safety and nostalgic notions

Let's just say this clearly, one more time (one last time?):  our  
grandparents and many people now prepare their canned vegetables in  
boiling water baths, not pressure canning.  CANNING LOW ACID FOODS  
WITHOUT PRESSURE METHODS CAN KILL PEOPLE.  Many of us have survived  
and thrived on foods canned in boiling water baths or inother ways,  
but that is LUCK, not canning safely.  Old-fashioned back-to-the-old- 
days life style is great, when it's safe.  When it's not, let's  
benefit by advances in food science and can food safely.
