Hi, Folks!
We did our part for "Celebrate Urban Birds!" yesterday -- we had a bird walk
at Black Rock Sanctuary in Phoenixville PA that was open to the community --
we had 8 folks come out at 8 am who had a great time and saw about 25
different species.
Later in the morning, we planted three separate "bird-friendly" areas in the
community garden and hosted the local County Commissioner candidates
(Tuesday is the Primary Election in PA). It turns out that one of the
candidates is a huge birder, so she spent about an hour (on the Saturday
before the primary!!) "talking birds" with our Audubon Society members.
Since Cornell sent us a huge box of "urban bird kits," we're donating a
bunch of them to the local Boy Scout troop -- the troop will decided where
and when they are going to bird watch, then will fill out the forms and
submit them to Cornell.
Thanks to Cornell for putting all this together -- I'm more a plant person
than a bird person so I never really thought about anything more than the
basics of keeping the local wildlife happy, but our Audubon Society members
went NUTS over this event and it was a really good event for our community
garden.
