I've put comfrey leaves in a bucket, covered with water, put the lid 
on, and left them to ferment for a week or three.

The result is, indeed, potent enough for passersby to ask if there's 
a sewage leak. But the plants like it.

I dilute it quite a bit before adding to plants, and I put the 
leftover muck in the compost bin.
