[Community_garden] Jena, Louisiana and the new Growing Food and Justice for All Initiative

Dear Judy, Amy, Don, Mike, Diana and everyone,

Back in August, I announced the formation of an initiative called Food and Justice for All on the ACGA listserv.

I  also issued a personal invitation to attendees of the ACGA conference at the Annual Meeting in Boston.

The initiative is in it's forming stages, and we held our first face to face meeting at Growing Power in Milwaukee
just last weekend.  People from all across the country, community gardeners, new immigrant farmers, farmers of color,
USDA-RMA employees, sustainable urban agriculture employees, etc., from all across the U.S. joined together to
discuss and formulate a structure for this grass roots initiative which would build power and solidarity among it's participants,
and address questions of access, inclusion and social justice through an anti-racist lense.  The participants are not
limited to the above mentioned groups, but the need for such an initiative came from the food security movement...and since
we all have to EAT, it is open to EATERS of every kind of food (and food for thought and action)!  And since ultimately,
community gardening is connected to food security and social justice, we all have a place at the table and in the garden.
