[Community_garden] Hydro Right of Ways

Hi All, Here in Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro is one of the big players in Public Open Space. They have allowed and encouraged community gardens to be established on several of the transmission line Right of Ways. Maybe because we are out on the prairie they did not have to do a lot of clearing for the towers and I don't believe that a lot of herbicide, if any was used. I admit that when I first saw these giant monsters walking across the landscape I said ohhhh. But once you get out on the greenway and look down, the towers do not seem to matter. I know that within 100 feet of them there is a measurable electromagnetic force which is not good. However the community garden is not within this area. I haven' t noticed any buzzing noises. This right of way also has retention ponds on it and The frogs are singing too loudly at the moment. But, no there is no loud buzzing on the greenway. Manitoba Hydro also funds organizations to plant orchards. But Manitoba is a Crown Corporation and has a fiducary responsibility to members of the public. I am not sure what the arrangements are in the U.S. Karen

Many people are concerned about the effects of being under those things; and
you'd also have to consider the huge amount of herbicides they've probably
used over the years to keep the right of way clear....

" You must identify your supporters and capitalize on them. You also must identify your adversaries and their specific complaints so that you can address them."

While knowing that these vary from area to area, knowing what organizations support and oppose community gardens in other areas, would allow others to be a bit preemptive on their approach. Would you care to share?
