[Community_garden] redwood borders around plots

let all be fine and well,

ok, its official you can call me an environmentalist, i really cant
see the effort put into placing new wood in a garden. First off it
will leach nitrogen out of the soil, second off here in California,
alot of forest is being lost to clear cutting.im pretty familiar with
redwood and have issue with folks who buy it because it is such a
pretty wood. yes, its true. it is, fresh. have you ever seen ten year
old redwood? its a required taste. most people are very unhappy with
how it looks after it has been weathered. the color looks bland
(something like diarrhea), and it doesnt hold up, insects can tear
this stuff up like really good chocolate cake. i just helped our local
zen center take apart a redwood shed that looked terrible, it was only
four years old.

some suggestions:

1). does your community have a freecycle or restore? (a freecycle is a
listserve or bulletin where people can find free things, a restore
sells recycled materials).

2). can you put an ad in the classifieds looking for recycled lumber?
