[Community_garden] Dollar value of produce from gardens

Hi friends at ACGA,

 

A family of community gardeners here in Madison weighed most of the produce they harvested this past summer.   I want to share their impressive results with you, in case this information could be helpful in your work.

 

2007 Quann Garden in Madison, Wisconsin - Yields

One season of produce from 2 plots, each 20' x 20' for a total of 20' x 40' of space

Prices from organic produce at Willy Street Grocery Cooperative in Madison

 

Potatoes - 88 lbs. (Kennebecs) @ 1.59/lb. = $139.92

Onions - 21 lbs. (Copra) @. 89/lb. = $18.69

Green Beans - 15 lbs. @ $1.79/lb. = $26.85

Sweet Corn - 58 ears (5 - 7 ½ ") @ 4.50/dozen = $21.75

Butternut Squash - 44 ½ lbs. @ 1.39/lb. = $61.86

Strawberries - 37 lbs. @ $3.25 / lb. = $120.25

Eggplant - 10 lbs. @ $3.39/lb. = $33.90

Peppers (Poblano, Serrano, Pasilla) - 19 ½ lbs. @ $4.89/lb. = $95.36

Peppers (Giant Marconi, Big Bell) - 9 lbs. @ $4.99 lb. = $44.91

 

Total = $563.49
