Hi Kristi,
The community garden movement is only a few years old in the City of Paris proper. There is a fledgling organization called "Graine de Jardins" which is connected to CGs inside the city limits and you can get probably get information about it (and easily accessible CGs!) from:
Laurence Baudelet grainedejardins at wanadoo.fr
There is also a very old and large allotment garden in the Parisian suburb of San Denis, which is, for the most part, a working class area with a large immigrant population, and Laurence, who speaks fluent English, can give you ideas of how to get there.
In Amsterdam, don't miss De Hortus, one of the oldest botanic gardens in the world (1638!!). www.dehortus.nl and if you can get to Keukenhof, it is unbelievable in April.
Enjoy!!
