FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

St. John's United Church of Christ Organic Community Garden and Labyrinth,
and its Coordinator, Dorene Pasekoff, have been awarded a "Seeds of
Encouragement" Grant by the Community Gardens As Appleseeds Foundation of
Los Gatos, California. The grant was awarded for Pasekoff's advice and
encouragement provided on the American Community Gardening Association's
Listserv (the professional society for community gardeners in the US and
Canada, available at http://www.communitygarden.org/connect/listserv.php)
and to the gardeners of St. John's United Church of Christ Organic Community
Garden and Labyrinth for their exemplary service to the Phoenixville
community.

"It's an 'atta boy' from your peers," says Pasekoff. "If your peers approve
of you nationally and recognize the community garden you serve among the
thousands throughout the United States and Canada, then we in Phoenixville
must be doing something right."

The Community Gardens As Appleseeds Foundation
<http://communitygardensasappleseeds.info/index.html> offers $50 "Seeds of
Encouragement" grants nationwide to encourage individuals and groups to
promote community gardening or congratulate those who considered outstanding
examples of the ideals of community gardening. The grants are may be "used
for anything that might help promote community gardens including seeds,
plants, books, soil amendments, tools or anything else you think might help
your efforts."

With the gardeners' planning to visit the Philadelphia Flower Show on March
5th, this unrestricted grant couldn't have come at a better time, according
to Pasekoff. "Our Audubon Society members have been lobbying hard for a
quality bird bath," says Pasekoff. "We'll wander around the Marketplace,
poll the gardeners who come with us to the Flower Show and see what we come
home with." Whatever is purchased will be installed on April 5th when the
community garden opens for the 2008 season. The labyrinth is open
year-round during daylight hours.

Plots at St. John's United Church of Christ Organic Community Garden and
Labyrinth are available to anyone who wishes to grow their own food
organically and agrees to donate at least 10% (the Biblical Tithe) to anyone
in need or a local agency. Through its gardeners' efforts, the community
garden is the primary source of in-season fresh produce to the food bank at
Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS). The turf labyrinth was
dedicated in 2005 as a gift to the community to encourage walking meditation
and creative problems solving for anyone who would like to walk its path
