[Community_garden] cooperative gardens

Hi, Krista,

The garden I work in, Homestead Harvest, in Baltimore, has finished its
fourth season as a cooperative garden. Growing this way allows you to
plant more efficiently, or at least that's the theory. It's fun, and
you sure do get to know the other gardeners. We all work together at
the same time, but of course not everyone shows up each week. How we
split the harvest is: if you came, you take a share. We often have
extra to give away, which is nice. We try to have one or two things in
excess so that we can be generous with passers-by (we are on city
street). It can also be a good way for more experienced gardeners to
teach newcomers.

We also have a few private plots for people who want to garden but
can't join us, and if a kid wants to grown something, we can always
find a corner that can be private.

regards,

Miriam
