Description
POSITION/BCM TITLE: Greenhouse Maintainer-Science Educator (Part Time)
DEPARTMENT: Education
Supervisors: Science Coordinator

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Strong background in botany, horticulture, landscaping, and general plant
care. Experience with exotic plants, pond maintenance, pruning, and use of
non-pesticide methods of insect control.
2. BA degree in botany, horticulture, or related field and/or equivalent
experience.
3. Able to meet physical demands: work in a warm/humid greenhouse, outdoor
gardening during summer weather, transport program supplies to and from
outreach program sites.
4. Teaching and program development experience in an educational setting;
ability and desire to interact with youth and families.
5. Ability to work independently as well as on a team; attention to detail;
initiative and follow-through.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Outlook.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee the management and operations of the museum's Greenhouse and
Garden; providing high quality of care of all plants and animal terrariums,
maintaining a high level of cleanliness and artistic quality of displays,
maintaining and ordering of supplies and equipment.
2. Train and oversee the work of other staff, volunteers, and interns
assigned to work in his/her area of responsibility.
3. Develop and implement a variety of educational programs utilizing the
Greenhouse and Garden as a primary resource, including but not limited to
workshops, school programs, afterschool programs, camp programs, teacher
professional development and gallery facilitation for children 5-14 and
their families.
4. Keep up to date with current knowledge, expertise and latest industry
advances.
5. Serve as an active member of the Education Department, in developing,
evaluating, and implementing programs; participate in development and
implementation of department wide events and programs.
6. Serve as emergent back-up for other Education Department members as
needed.
7. All other duties as required.
SCHEDULE:
1. Work full days Wednesday-Saturday
2. Flexible to cover additional hours for paid time to cover emergently as
needed.
3. Part time position with no health/dental benefits.

Greenhouse Maintainer-Science Educator
Short Descriptive Paragraph:
The first museum for children is searching for a part time Greenhouse
Maintainer-Science Educator. This person is responsible for the care of all
plants and animal terrariums in the greenhouse and garden. This person will
develop and teach natural science, ethnobotany, live animal, and physical
science programs. Educator will also be an active member of the Education
Dept assisting in various educational projects related to program
development.
