GROWING POWER IS GROWING GREEN SPACES
A first-of-its-kind partnership has been cultivated between Growing Power, Inc. and the Lynde & Harry Bradley Technology & Trade School – Construction Academy (Bradley Tech) to build an urban agricultural training space and green garage in the Milwaukee Riverwest neighborhood (the Growing Spaces project).
Through hands-on experiences, Growing Spaces will grow a cadre of green-collar workers. For the first time ever, Bradley Tech students will be constructing a green building from the ground up made completely from green materials using green construction techniques. The building will also have an intensive year-round rooftop garden for food production. The food will stay local and will be shared among neighbors and local food pantries in the Riverwest area. Growing Spaces is the first project of its kind in the nation and demonstrates a replicable model for a partnership between sustainable urban green construction and agriculture.
The Growing Spaces project has multiple benefits: Bradley Tech students will be prepared for green jobs, both now and in the future. Growing Spaces positions Bradley Tech to move into the future with green projects. It positions the city of Milwaukee as an incubator for a green construction workforce. And it positions the state of Wisconsin as a leader in green innovation.
A PRESS CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 4th, 2008 at 3:00pm at BRADLEY TECH, 700 South 4th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53204. Please rsvp to Growing Power, Inc. at (414) 527-1546, or will at growingpower.org.
Come and get involved in this exciting project as we grow a greener and more sustainable future for Milwaukee!
