Hi Folks,  here is the GFJI call for propsals in plain text...It seems that people are having trouble opening the attachment.

Please circulate widely, and inform folks who may not have access to electronic media, telephones, etc.!  We hope to have translations available in the future (and DEFINITELY at the conference) and would appreciate help in making that happen.  Thank you!!

 
CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS AND AFFINITY SESSIONS 
Growing Food and Justice for All Initiative (GFJI)First Annual Gathering
September 25-28th 2008

 Proposal Period: March 7th – April 5th 2008
“You don’t have to be directly involved in sustainable agriculture or food security work to participate inthe network. We are inviting you to join because of your exceptional leadership and your vision for ourcommunities, local and global”. 
“We want you to come away with the physical and spiritual tools, material and non-material resourcesthat you need to elevate your work to another level.” “We also want you to acquire the training and special tools needed to begin dismantling racism in thework that you do. This is a belated aspect of social justice work that we must develop if truly multiculturalleadership is to develop.

” Workshop Topics

 There will be opportunities for open space sessions for impromptu workshops and meetings.

Topics focused on Dismantling Racism (dR) in the food system 

Also:
* Social justice campaigns and parallel movement presentations
* Immigrant farmer and migrant worker justice
* Dismantling Racism in the media
* Building community operated food systems using anti-racism principles
* Health disparities among ethnic and economic groups* Youth and multi-generational approaches to food and justice
* Urban agriculture as a tool for dismantling racism
* Economic development
* Strategies for developing people of color leadership
* Dismantling Racism training 

Creative, passionate affinity sessions that will inspire and engage others!!!!! 

Session format:
Workshops and Affinity sessions are for 2 hour slots and can last for more than 1 session, ( example: part 1 Friday1pm-3pm and again on part 2 Saturday from 1pm- 3pm). 

Only interactive and participatory proposals willbe accepted. Presentations that build leadership skills, facilitate the development of anti-racism strategiesand are innovative will be given top priority! 

Submission of proposals:
Please submit your workshop proposal to dianefaydodge at hotmail.com Presenters will have registration fee waived, but will be asked to pay membership dues ($15.00) and willbe eligible to apply for travel/lodging scholarships if funds become available.
