[Community_garden] old tires for growing potatoes

How do we find out if something is safe or not if we experiment it?  How did people find out that Zinc and Cadmium were toxic?  How did our ancestors find out if some plants are toxic and not to touch it or eat it?  Life is all about experimenting and finding answers and solutions.  Don't you think?
   
  I didn't say we experiment and eat the potatoes.  And, I am sure this is a much cheapter and safe experiment (well, I guess you do need a chemist and a lab), compared to some of these other researchs that are going on, don't you think?
