I agree with Betsy that we should all be using the existing database, as
it is very useful for finding gardens that are cataloged. It has some
limitations, though. It is difficult, from this end, to compile the
information stored. It also appears from the discussion today that
there are questions about what type of information needs to be entered.
Perhaps another effort to spread the word about the database and clarify
the procedures for entering data is needed. Finding a way to compile
the data could also be useful.
I also think a national or bi-national survey is needed. One idea, and
it seems far fetched, is to lobby Congress to include home and community
garden questions in the next Census.
