Hey all,
It would be hard enough to get all gardens and garden plots counted everywhere in North America (a census), let alone attempt to get individual gardens named and located. The folks that would get the most mileage from a simple census, academics and journalists, would not need info on individual gardens. Finding gardens in any city is easy enough to get if someone wants to do an ethnography or news stories or find a garden close to them. The ACGA web page that Betsy mentions will probably never be complete enough to use to make an estimate of total gardens/plots and their spatial distribution (geo-speak). One of the reasons is mentioned already, the time to log every garden.

PS: The other thread is about making email easier to read (or "digest" ha ha). Please be advised that when you are responding to someone on the list, you do not need to also send an email to their personal email. I got several duplicate messages from people responding to me.
Hi folks,
I am also wondering how you would like citywide programs to link in to this database of gardens? Do we need to list each garden individually or can we simply register as a program?
Thanks for your time,

One of the purposes of the new online ACGA community garden database is
precisely because there is not good data/survey of the community gardens out
there. As former ACGA executive director I was continually frustrated that
I needed to come up with questimates about community garden numbers and
demographics.
So, now we just need to get all the gardens out there to go to
www.communitygarden.org and add information about their garden(s) to the
database. Down the road, ACGA hopes to recruit some interns to help with
the data collection -- meanwhile let me know if you'd like to join a cadre
of information gatherers.
